Michael Bartalos

Michael Bartalos is a visual artist working in print, video, and sculpture. He has produced artist’s multiples in collaboration with Xerox PARC, the San Francisco Center for the Book, and the Maryland Institute College of Art. His works have been exhibited internationally and are found in numerous artists’ books collections including those of the Getty Research Institute, MoMA, and the Walker Art Center.

His ongoing project, titled The Art of Recycling in Antarctica : The Long View, is a series of multimedia artworks that address polar science, history, and environment. The project’s objective is to raise international awareness of resource conservation and eco-preservation practices in Antarctica, and by extension, promote and inspire sustainability worldwide. The Long View is facilitated by an Antarctic Artist’s and Writer’s Program grant from the National Science Foundation.

Bartalos attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Pratt Institute (BFA), and Stanford University (MFA). He lives and works in San Francisco where he serves as Co-Director of ArtMadeHere.org and as the first Affiliate Artist of the California Academy of Sciences. His work is online at bartalos.com.
