I’m back in San Francisco with the material I collected and shipped back from Antarctica. This starts the art-making phase of my project whose process I’m documenting on the Long View blog. I’ve begun by alternating between a few days of sketchbook posts and a few days of posting collected items.

Here are a couple of the sketchbook entries posted so far. I’m using the book to formulate ideas, develop visual vocabularies, explore shapes, colors, textures and line, and work out technical aspects of construction. These pages are in response to my collected items and my experience on the ice, both of which will inform the final sculptural assemblages.
